Ten days to go.

So all the final preparations have been made. Just going round now dotting the I's and crossing the T's. Yeah Right!!!.

As usual, I've still got forty things on my todo list that haven't even been started but between now and the 11th all preparations will be completed. I visited the venue yesterday to confirm that our booking lists matched and that everyone was booked in and all that is in order. Did some scanning as well for the songbook and those image have to be cropped and prepared for printing.

There is still room for any late-comers so if anyone is interested: email on [email protected]

Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Alan.

Thanks to Wolfgang for identifying the source of the images in last months post. I since found this site : http://12bar.de/scale_generator.php

It does exactly what I was looking for. Its for guitar but if you go for open G tuning and just ignore the 5th/6th strings on the bottom of the picture, it's a banjo.

Take a look at all the options for scales / chords etc. In any key you wish. Worth checking out.

Hi All,
Well, the countdown has started to the jam with just over 3 months to go. That's just over 100 days. So that's still plenty of time for practice.

G Scales
G/C Scales cheat sheets.....

I don't know where on the web I got these from but they are great for learning your scales. I apologise for not crediting their creator as my ol'timers/senior moments are frequent and I just can't recall.

C Scales
C Version here. I have bigger versions if anyone wants to email me.

Regards,
Alan.

Hello,

Chris here....Alan's let me loose on the websites :)

I've set up a 'Posterous Group' site which is linked from this site. The idea is to use the group to share ideas, plan for Novemeber and get to know each otehr a bit more.

You'll soon receive an email about how to use the site. There is no need to sign up for anything (if you do not wish to) - its all accessible through your email address.

If you want to unsubscribe from the emails there is a link at the bottom of each Posterous Group email.

Any problems please drop me a line, my email is [email protected].

Cheers, Chris.

Nine Pound Hammer
It's been a while since I updated. Just to bring folks up to date, it looks like we have about 15 people so far. I will update more often over the next few months. But there's still plenty of time till the event.

Irish Banjo?
My daughter Anna kindly photo-shopped up this picture for me.

This certainly is First Post for me! Up to now, I've managed to successfully avoid all blogging, FaceBooking, being LinkedIn and all other forms of public broadcasting. But here goes...

The main purpose of the blog is to give others a chance to comment and help us to make the forthcoming gathering as enjoyable and as informative as possible for those coming to Dublin.

Where else but at a UK Folkies' weekend could you see a dis-assembled banjo, get to play a double-bass or get your banjo electrified?  Not many places that I can think of.

So let us know if you have any suggestions for songs / tunes / skills to share or anything that takes your fancy.

Alan.

    About

Welcome to the 2011 Dublin Jam blog. By setting up this blog (my first ever!) I'm hoping you will let me know your views on the jam.
I'm also hoping that between now and November we can schedule a few talks/ demos/ classes/ events etc within the weekend as happened on previous years. So if anyone has any suggestions or offers this is the place to let us know.
